The 2009/10 MusicNOW season begins with an eclectic sampling of works by American composer Frederic Rzewski and Hungarian composer György Kurtág. Rzewski’s quirky Pocket Symphony requires extreme virtuosity from its players and includes a trash can lid, rain stick, and mouth harp in the percussion section. Kurtág’s Messages of the Late R.V. Troussova is a song cycle based on wrenching, hallucinatory texts by contemporary Russian poet Rimma Dalos.
