Cameras and cords
Back in August I wrote about the process of setting up my virtual piano studio. At the time, I was waiting out a shortage of Logitech webcams, and had ordered two, hoping to get at least one soon. They both came last week, and I’ve put them to good use. One is mounted above the keys with a simple mic stand; the other on a tripod to the right of the keyboard. Along with my laptop camera, they offer different, helpful views to the student. The overhead keyboard cam is perfect for demonstrating fingering, and also for working with students on ear training and playing back simple patterns. The side cam is great for demonstrating arm technique, relaxation, and ease of movement. I use the laptop camera to interface with students, and then toggle between the three, depending on what I’m doing. So far, I’m very pleased with the webcams, which run around $100 on Amazon.
